The Essequibo Technical Institute was established in June 2000 by the government through the Ministry of Education. On March 12, last, the institution for the first time, opened its door to 160 students. Today the Essequibo Technical Institute also extends its training to students in Regions One, Seven and Eight. The principal, Rawle Pearce, said during his report, that technical and vocational education is of great importance, especially since there are in Guyana emerging industries associated with oil, gas and mining.
