The Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar) was created in 1968 e was the first federal institution of higher education founded in the countryside of São Paulo State. The University stands out for its high level of qualification of its faculties: 96.1% are Doctors or Master's degree and 95.81% of the teachers develop teaching, research and extension in exclusive dedication system. The University has four campuses: São Carlos, Araras, Sorocaba and Lagoa do Sino. São Carlos Campus has 300 laboratories, one library, one clinic, two theaters, nine lecture halls, 12 auditoriums, one gymnasium, one sports park, seven courts, two pools, one university restaurant, four snack bars, 124 classrooms and 672 vacancies internal and external student housing. Araras Campus has 28 laboratories divided between teaching and research, 22 classrooms, one library, one clinic, one amphitheater, one court, one aquatic center, one university restaurant, one snack bar and 33 external vacancies in student housing. Sorocaba Campus has 44 laboratories, one library, one clinic, two auditoriums, one sports court, one university restaurant, one snack bar, 29 classrooms, one football field with running track and 80 external vacancies of student housing. Lagoa do Sino Campus, created in 2014, has ten laboratories, one computer lab, one library, one university restaurant, one snack bar and eleven classrooms. The 48 academic departments of the University are divided in eight Centeraa: Agrarian Sciences, Biological and Health Sciences, Management and Technology Sciences, Science and Technology for Sustainability, Exact and Technology Sciences, Humanities and Biological Sciences, Education and Human Sciences and Natural Sciences. UFSCar offers 62 courses with 2,757 vacancies for undergraduated courses. In addition, it has 47 graduate programs, eight Professional Master's courses, 41 academic Master's, 27 Doctorates and 95 specialization courses. In the extension scope, UFSCar offers 1,355 extension activities and 311 programs. It also offers an average of 80 Curricular Integration Activity between Teaching, Research and Outreach (Aciepes) per year. There are a total of 24,825 students registered at the University: 12,338 in undergraduate courses; 1,584 in distance education; 369 are students of Professional Master's; 1,915 of Master's; 1,690 Doctorates; and 6,929 of Specialization courses. In 2014, UFSCar obtained the 18th place among 300 Latin American universities included in the ranking prepared by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). The institution obtained 82 points in the overall assessment and is, therefore, considered the 10th best Brazilian institution.
