In 1979 a group of art students approached Maestro Ricaurte Martínez during an exhibition at the El Marco Mundial gallery in order to request that he give private watercolor classes. The first lessons were received at the Pro-Artes Gallery. After six months, ninety students learned various drawing and painting techniques. In 1980, what would formally be the Ganexa Academy of Fine Arts began, venturing into technical programs in Plastic Arts, Theatre, Free Drawing and Painting Courses for adults and children. In 1982 the Graphic Design Technician began, this would be the first formal graphic design program offered in Panama. In the year 1985, the technical careers of Fashion Design and Photography began as pioneering programs.
