The beginnings of the private Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho Northeastern University (Universidad Nororiental Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho) date back to 1985, when Dr. Eduardo González Reyes, accompanied by other visionaries, promoted its creation, an effort that was materialized by Presidential Decree No. 1,511 published in the Official Gazette No. 33,692 dated April 3, 1987, which authorized its operation under the name of the Northeast University (UNOR), with the city of Barcelona, Anzoátegui State, Venezuela as its main headquarters. The adoption of the name “Universidad Nororiental Privada Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho”, including the acronym UGMA, took shape in 1993 with the incorporation of the Promoter Civil Society of the University, chaired by Dr. Arístides Maza Tirado, who with the rest of the members , added the necessary effort in terms of management and motivation, which allowed reaching the degree of development that it presents today.
