The building of the main building of the State Pedagogical University is one of the historical sights of the city. It was built in 1936 by the order of Sergo Ordzhonikidze, people's commissar of heavy engineering, for the city's first school. The building is unique even for those times. It was a special project for the city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur. “In an unusual city, a school should also be unusual,” said the people's commissar. The building was built under the leadership of the chief architect of Komsomolsk-on-Amur A.Patrikeev. In 1954 it was transferred into the possession of the Pedagogical Institute created in the city. In 2017 Amur State University for the Humanities and Pedagogics won the competition of programs for the development of studen associations, which was held by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. The victory was brought to the university by the program “The New Generation of Komsomolsk-on-Amur – Always One Step Ahead
