Lipetsk State Technical University (LSTU) is one of the leading educational institutions of the Central Black-Earth region of the Russian Federation. Established in 1956 as the Evening faculty of Tula Mechanical Institute, the first and only technical university in the region began its history with training specialists majoring in: – Technology of mechanical engineering, metalcutting machines and tools; – Machinery and technology of foundry. The number of students was then 125. In 1959 the Evening faculty was reorganized into the Lipetsk evening faculty of Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys, and in 1966 it was reorganized into the Lipetsk branch of the Institute. In 1973, the branch became Lipetsk Polytechnic Institute, comprising four faculties that trained engineers majoring in 14 fields.
