Murmansk Arctic State University is the largest and oldest university beyond the Arctic Circle. During its long history of existence, the university has gone from a teacher's institute to a leading institution of higher education in the Murmansk region. With the support of the regional and federal authorities, MAGU is being transformed into an innovative center for the social and cultural development of the Murmansk region. MASU is the only Russian Arctic university located directly on the territory of the Arctic, and therefore is aimed at solving the priority tasks not only of the Murmansk region, but of the entire Arctic zone of Russia. In 2017, the university received the status of a flagship university in Russia , which opens up new prospects for its development. The university actively conducts research in various fields of natural, technical, social and human sciences, most of the research is interdisciplinary in nature, combining methods and approaches of several sciences within one project. MASU cooperates with the largest Russian scientific and educational organizations. One of the key directions in the development of MASU as the leading educational and scientific center of the region is the internationalization of the university space. The geography of MASU international cooperation covers more than 15 foreign countries. The dominant position is occupied by universities located in the Barents Euro-Arctic region.
