The National Open and Distance University (UNAD) is an Educational Project that was born under the name of Unidad Universitaria del Sur de Bogotá, UNISUR during the government of Belisario Betancur. It emerged, through Law 52 of 1981, as a public establishment of the national order attached to the Ministry of National Education and transformed by the Congress of the Republic through Law 396 of August 5, 1997, in the National Open and Distance University UNAD. It was created in order to design and implement academic programs with the pedagogical strategy of distance education, which was relevant to local, regional, national, and international needs and in accordance with the challenges and demands of a democratic, participatory and dynamic society related to scientific, social and cultural models that contextualize the 21st century. Since its inception - April 1982 - the University has been characterized by its commitment to communities and populations that have not had access to technical, socio-humanistic, and community training. Also, for its contribution to the recovery of the social fabric, the generation of workspaces, and training for citizen participation.
