The Paleontological Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences (PIN; Russian: Палеонтологический институт РАН) in Moscow is among the world's largest paleontological institutes. An affiliate of the Russian Academy of Sciences, it includes collections from all over the former Soviet Union, as well as from other countries. Paleontological Institute. A.A. Borisyak RAS is the only specialized scientific institution in Russia dealing with the study of morphology, taxonomy and phylogeny of fossil organisms; patterns of evolutionary processes, formation and development of ecosystems and the biosphere as a whole. Over 100 researchers work within its walls. The structure of scientific divisions is built on a systematic basis, i.e. each subdivision brings together specialists in some large group of organisms (type, class, etc.). However, this does not prevent the cooperation of scientists from different departments to perform work that goes beyond the scope of one laboratory. The level of fundamental research of the Institute's staff not only corresponds to the world level, but in some cases exceeds it.
