The Marcelino Champagnat University was initially founded in 1948, then called Santo Tomás de Aquino Normal School. In 1974, the Normal moved to the headquarters of the Champagnat College , located in the Miraflores district . In 1983, it changed its name to the Marcellin Champagnat Higher Pedagogical Institute. On January 5, 1990, the university was created by Law No. 25180, issued during the second government of Alan García . In 2006, its campus was transferred to the district of Santiago de Surco. On October 12, 2017, the National Superintendence of Higher Education (Sunedu) granted the license to the university after verifying compliance with the basic quality conditions required.
