The University of Protestant Church Music of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria is a state-recognized church university in Bayreuth , Bavaria . The rector of the university has been Wolfgang Döberlein since October 1, 2019, the prorectors are Thomas Albus and Marko Zdralek. The church music school, founded in 1948, was temporarily housed in Erlangen and moved to Bayreuth in 1953. The predecessor institute was the "Private Organ School" founded by Heinrich Schmidt in Bayreuth in 1921. In 1953, the regional church in Bayreuth erected a building specially designed for the purpose of the church music school, which was built specifically for the training of full-time church musicians and the associated spatial requirements.
