The University of Applied Sciences (FHDW) is a state-recognized private university of applied sciences in North Rhine-Westphalia , established in the 1990s, with its headquarters in Paderborn and further campuses in Bergisch Gladbach , Bielefeld and Mettmann as well as in Marburg ( Hesse ). The same school board also runs the business school in Lower Saxony with its headquarters in Hanover. The University of Applied Sciences started its work in Paderborn in 1993. In 1996 an additional location was opened in Bergisch Gladbach . In 2001, the Bielefeld site went into operation. Studying in Dresden started in 2005 , but was discontinued in October 2011. On September 28, 2009, the newest location was opened with the first lecture in Mettmann.
