The Eisenach University of Cooperative Education was founded in 1998 and was, alongside the Gera University of Cooperative Education , the second location of the Thuringia State Academy of Studies. The Berufsakademie Eisenach was located in the listed building of the former Carl Alexander School . Director was Burkhard Utecht, his deputy was Stephan Rometsch. With effect from September 1, 2016, the Free State of Thuringia established the Gera-Eisenach Cooperative State University with administrative headquarters in Gera as the legal successor to the Thuringia State Academy. Eisenach thus became a secondary location of the Cooperative State University
